Teaching Laughter Since 2025

We help people discover that comedy writing isn't some mystical talent. It's a skill you can learn, practice, and actually get good at.

Started From Frustration, Built With Purpose

Our founder, Evhenia Shulha, spent years trying to find decent comedy writing instruction in Ukrainian. Most resources were either too theoretical or focused on standup performance rather than actual writing craft. Ever notice how teaching comedy often feels like someone explaining why a joke is funny after you've already heard it?

So in 2025, she decided to create what she wished existed. Mordlek became a place where you learn comedy writing through doing, not just reading about it. We focus on practical exercises, immediate feedback through interactive quizzes, and a gamified approach that makes the learning process actually enjoyable.

What makes us different isn't revolutionary. We simply believe that comedy writing is a teachable craft, not an inborn gift. Our courses break down joke structure, timing, and character development into manageable pieces. You practice, get instant feedback, and see what works and what doesn't.

We're based in Horlivka, serving the Donetsk Oblast community and beyond. Our platform combines digital accessibility with an understanding of local humor sensibilities and cultural references. The goal isn't to turn everyone into professional comedy writers. It's to help people communicate with more wit, write sharper dialogue, or simply understand why certain jokes land and others don't.

Teaching comedy requires honesty. Not everything you write will be funny. Some exercises will feel awkward. That's normal and expected. Our quizzes and assignments are designed to help you recognize patterns and develop instincts, not to grade your sense of humor.

Whether you're exploring comedy writing as a hobby, looking to improve your creative communication skills, or genuinely interested in professional writing, we built this platform for practical learning. No promises of viral success or guaranteed laughs. Just structured instruction and tools to develop your craft at your own pace.
